The story of Chandra

Chandra is lord of the moon, plants and the lunar calendar, associated with beauty, desire and changing fortune. Son of Atri and Anasuya in major traditions; husband of the twenty-seven daughters of Daksha.

Vedic Soma blends sacred drink, lunar power and immortality.

Chandra married the lunar mansions but favored Rohini, provoking Daksha's curse and the moon's decline.

Divine intervention transformed the curse into the recurring cycle of waxing and waning.

He also appears in genealogies as ancestor of the Lunar dynasty that includes the Kurus and Yadavas.
