Duryodhana is ambitious Kaurava leader whose courage and loyalty were overshadowed by envy and refusal to share power. Eldest son of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari; friend of Karna.
From childhood he viewed the Pandavas as rivals and tried to eliminate Bhima and later trap the family in a wax house.
He rejected the division of the kingdom, envied Indraprastha and used Shakuni's dice game to dispossess the Pandavas.
He refused Krishna's peace proposal and led the Kaurava side in the eighteen-day war.
Bhima mortally wounded him in a mace duel by striking his thigh; he died proud but defeated.
