Janaka is sita's father, remembered as a wise ruler detached from possession and devoted to truth. King of Mithila; father of Sita and Urmila.

He found infant Sita in a furrow while performing a sacred ploughing rite.

Known for philosophical insight, he ruled while cultivating inward detachment.

He set the lifting of Shiva's bow as the condition for Sita's marriage, and welcomed Rama after the bow broke.

He gave counsel on family, duty and spiritual freedom during the royal marriages.
