The story of Kartikeya

Kartikeya is warrior son of Shiva and Parvati, born to defeat the demon Tarakasura. Son of Shiva and Parvati; brother of Ganesha.

The gods required Shiva's son to defeat Tarakasura, whose boon protected him from all others.

Divine sparks were carried through Agni and Ganga and nurtured by the Krittika stars, giving rise to his six-faced form.

As youthful commander he led the divine armies and killed Tarakasura.

Especially revered as Murugan in Tamil traditions, he represents beauty, knowledge, courage and disciplined warfare.
