Hiranyakashipu's boon made him immune to man or beast, indoors or outdoors, day or night, weapon or conventional death.
When the king struck a pillar and demanded proof of Vishnu's presence, Narasimha burst forth.
He placed the tyrant on his lap at the threshold during twilight and killed him with claws.
Prahlada's prayers calmed the avatar's cosmic fury after the deed was complete.
